Softball Recap: Madison Dodgers vs. Morris Catholic Crusaders
Madison extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 12-13. They came up short against the Morris Catholic Crusaders, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in April.
As for Morris Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 21-10. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
For Morris Catholic's part, Sofia Reisinger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Reisinger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Natalie Carovillano and Savannah Mead did most of the damage at the plate: Carovillano went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Mead went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Carovillano a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Carnivale, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Madison is taking a road trip to challenge Academy of St. Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morris Catholic, they will square off against Columbia at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
