Volleyball Preview: Lake Zurich Bears vs. Fremd Vikings

Lake Zurich is 1-9 against Fremd since September of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Bears will host the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Fremd took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Zurich, who comes in off a win.

On Wednesday, Lake Zurich beat Lake Forest 2-0. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Scouts recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

While Lake Zurich won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-22.

Ella Elsen and Malia McManus were among the main playmakers for Lake Zurich as the former had 11 assists and seven digs and the latter had six digs and three assists. That's the most digs Elsen has posted since back in October of 2024.

Meanwhile, Fremd didn't have quite enough to beat Buffalo Grove on Thursday and fell 2-1. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bison 25-18 in the first set.

Fremd actually scored more points across those three sets (71-68), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Fremd's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 16-5. As for Lake Zurich, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
