Softball Recap: Vanguard College Prep Vikings vs. Gholson
In what's become a running theme this season, Vanguard College Prep gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Gholson as the Vanguard College Prep Vikings made off with a 17-2 victory. The win was just what Vanguard College Prep needed coming off of a 22-1 loss in their prior game.
Miley Gonzales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Gonzales has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Gonzales was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lexi Barnett was a standout: she went 3-for-3 with a home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lydia Wollard, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Vanguard College Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Gholson, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanguard College Prep will face off against Veritas Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Veritas Academy knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Vanguard College Prep likes a good challenge. As for Gholson, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Texas Wind at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
