Basketball Game Preview: Crockett Bulldogs vs. Rusk Eagles

Crockett has gone 3-0 against Rusk recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 9:00 a.m. Crockett will be strutting in after a win while Rusk will be coming in after a loss.

Crockett is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since November 15th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-60 win over Hudson. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

It was another big night for Jayvon Bedford, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 23 points and three steals. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahkiem McKnight, who posted 16 points.

Rusk has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 70-52 bruising from Chapel Hill on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 621st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 232nd).

Crockett's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Rusk, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.

Crockett beat Rusk 63-56 when the teams last played back in November. The rematch might be a little tougher for Crockett since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
