Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Triumphs

Mt. Vernon had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 71-62 win over Southern Missouri RUSH.

Southern Missouri RUSH lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ben Graves, who went 9-for-14 to rack up 22 points and three blocks. He has also also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 45% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kellen Hathcock, who shot 41% from the field on his way to 18 points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Southern Missouri RUSH and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Crane at 6:00 p.m. As for Southern Missouri RUSH, they will take on Fair Grove at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
