Basketball Recap: Avon Skates Past Geneva with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Geneva Panthers 57-17. The Braves pushed the score to 53-10 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Avon found their leader in sophomore Payton Rice, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on her way to 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rice has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maria Geary, who posted 13 points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Avon was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Geneva lost, don't look at Trinity Maxon. Despite the final result, she scored ten points and six boards.

Avon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points per game. As for Geneva, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Avon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-26 loss against York on the 13th. As for Geneva, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-40 win against Wayne on the 15th.
