Basketball Recap: Roxana Shells vs. Civic Memorial Eagles
After flying high against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] last Saturday, Roxana came back down to earth. The Roxana Shells lost to the Civic Memorial Eagles on the road by a 61-46 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Shells can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Eagles are ranked 145th).
Several Shells players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jake Newton, who went 5-for-6 en route to 11 points. Sean Maberry was another key player, putting up seven points along with five assists and five boards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Civic Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than August Frankford, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Ogden, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten assists.
Roxana's defeat dropped their record down to 13-15. As for Civic Memorial, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-10.
Roxana didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-29 loss against Columbia on the 14th. As for Civic Memorial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 54-51 victory against Highland on the 14th.
