Baseball Recap: Stone Ridge Christian Comes Up Short

Stone Ridge Christian had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-14 to make it ten. They came up short against the Denair Coyotes, falling 18-9. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

As for Denair, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-7-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Denair's part, Kyle Sorensen and Thomas Lundquist made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sorensen tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lundquist pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. At the plate, Sorensen got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs, while Lundquist went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Lundquist, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Denair is 5-0-1 when Lundquist posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Brayden Hart was another, getting on base in four of his three plate appearances.

Stone Ridge Christian and Denair will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Knights see the field they'll take on Gustine at 4:00 p.m. on May 1. As for Denair, their break will end when they face Mariposa County at 3:30 p.m. on May 1.
