Preview: Pittsburg Pirates vs. Folsom Bulldogs
The Pittsburg Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Folsom Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Pittsburg comes in on 13 and Folsom on eight.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pittsburg had no problem doing just that on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 37-21 win over the Wolves. Pittsburg's victory was all the more impressive since San Ramon Valley was averaging only 15.92 points allowed on the season.
Jamar Searcy had a dynamite game for Pittsburg, rushing for 134 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Marley Alcantara was another key player, having thrown for 317 yards and onetouchdown.
Pittsburg's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Jewelous Walls and Joshua Dollarhide-watson who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Folsom's offense rose to the challenge against a Trojans defense that boasted an average of only 18 points allowed. Folsom walked away with a 34-27 victory over Oak Ridge on Friday. That's two games straight that Folsom has won by exactly seven points.
Folsom found their leader in underclassman Ryder Lyons, who threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Jameson Powell, who picked up 105 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Pittsburg's win lifted them to 13-0 while San Ramon Valley's defeat dropped them down to 10-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game Saturday as Pittsburg and Folsom have no problem gaining yardage. Pittsburg has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 421.6 total yards per game. However, it's not like Folsom struggles in that department as they've been averaging 391.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
