After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Maryville Christian, Washburn was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Cumberland Gap Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-1 last Friday.

Riley Munsey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Munsey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Munsey wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landry Coffey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Washburn is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. Cumberland Gap's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washburn will head out to square off against Gatlinburg-Pittman at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cumberland Gap, they will square off against Scott at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup will give Cumberland Gap their first taste of in-conference action this season.
