Baseball Recap: Aquinas Academy's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

Aquinas Academy won the last time they faced St. Joseph and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Crusaders put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 11-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won four matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jonah Burchill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Aquinas Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jack Stanton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Aquinas Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-8 otherwise. Henry Hynds was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Aquinas Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Joseph only posted a batting average of .174.

Aquinas Academy's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-9. As for St. Joseph, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aquinas Academy will head out to face off against Carrick at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Joseph, they will venture away from home to take on Western Beaver at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
