Softball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Horizon's Winning Streak

It was fun while it lasted, but Horizon's undefeated season came to an end after five games on Friday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers. The match marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Mackenzie Duncan put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Duncan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lila Hernandez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases.

Having lost for the first time this season, Horizon fell to 5-1. As for Berkeley Prep, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Horizon will be playing in front of their home fans against Archbishop Chapelle at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Horizon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Berkeley Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Foundation Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Foundation Academy also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.2 runs per game.
