Basketball Recap: Southside Comes Up Short

Southside extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-5. They took a 47-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlands Owls. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Owls apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Southside lost, don't look at Alisson Gonzalez. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points. Jazlene Nemer was another key player, putting up four points and seven boards.

As for Highlands, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points over those games.

Leading Highlands to victory were Moriah Regino and Karyssa Walker. Regino earned 13 points and six rebounds, while Walker had nine points and eight boards. Those 13 points gave Regino a new career-high.

Southside has already played their next game, a 51-25 win against Providence Catholic on the 20th. As for Highlands, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-44 victory against Somerset on the 20th.
