Basketball Recap: Westside Christian Academy Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Westside Christian Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Saint Thomas More Academy Griffins, sneaking past 63-61. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Westside Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Calvin Cottenden, who went 9-for-22 en route to 24 points and seven steals. Cottenden has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. Xander Biederman was another key player, putting up five points along with ten boards and six assists.

Westside Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Saint Thomas More Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Noah Kloska almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Teddy Fattal, who posted ten points and five assists.

Westside Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 27-5. As for Saint Thomas More Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Westside Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-43 defeat against James River HomeSchool on the 8th. As for Saint Thomas More Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 81-64 victory against Portersville Christian on the 8th.
