Baseball Recap: Holland Victorious

While Holland's victory against Calvin Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dutch won by a run and slipped past the Squires 2-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 on Friday.

Holland got a great performance from Robby Wiersma as he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Wiersma has become a key player for the Dutch: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Holland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Byrd, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Jay Cantu, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

The win made it two in a row for Holland and bumps their season record up to 4-12. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Calvin Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Holland will square off against Thornapple Kellogg at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Calvin Christian, they will challenge NorthPointe Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
