Basketball Recap: Escalante Falls Despite Big Games from Jaxen Cottam and Mac Porter

Escalante lost against Milford last Thursday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Escalante Moquis came up short against the Milford Tigers, falling 61-40. That's two games in a row now that the Moquis have lost by exactly 21 points.

Escalante's loss came despite strong showings from Mac Porter and Jaxen Cottam. Porter went 7-for-12 en route to 18 points and six rebounds, while Cottam posted 17 points and six boards. Those 18 points gave Porter a new career-high.

Sadler Barnes was his usual excellent self, going 10-for-19 on his way to 25 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists for Milford. Barnes' evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Boston Sullivan was another key player, going 6-for-8 to rack up 12 points and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Escalante and nudges their season record down to 9-12. As for Milford, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escalante will be taking part in a tournament against Bryce Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Milford, they will venture away from home to face off against Piute at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Milford has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 208 points over their last three matches.
