Basketball Recap: Minden Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Victory

Minden entered their tilt with Ogallala on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They managed a 55-49 victory over the Ogallala Indians. Given the Whippets' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Indians are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Minden to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mattie Kamery, who went 6 for 11 en route to 20 points. Kamery's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Makenna Starkey was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Minden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Ogallala saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aniston O'Neil went 7 of 16 on her way to 19 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave O'Neil a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Shaydyn Rasby, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Minden's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Ogallala, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

Minden didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-40 loss against Gothenburg on the 1st. As for Ogallala, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 39-37 victory against McCook on the 1st.
