Baseball Recap: Tug Valley Beats Teays Valley Christian for Their Third Straight Win

Tug Valley won against Mingo Central on Friday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Panthers came out on top against the Teays Valley Christian Lions by a score of 8-5. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Gavin Fitzpatrick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Fitzpatrick was also big at the plate, earning two runs and three stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Tug Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Hayden Brumfield was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Tug Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Tug Valley's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Teays Valley Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Tug Valley will host Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Pioneers at the right time seeing as the Pioneers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Teays Valley Christian, they will head out to challenge Huntington Expression Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
