Basketball Recap: Desert Vista Wins High-Profile Match Against Sunnyslope

On Wednesday, Desert Vista faced Sunnyslope in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Desert Vista Thunder walked away with a 45-33 win over the Sunnyslope Vikings. This was a revenge game for the Thunder: when they faced off against the Vikings back in January, they had to take a 58-43 defeat.

Desert Vista's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zaire 'Cherri' Hatter, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Hatter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trinity Jones, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Teagan McIlroy, who posted nine points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Sunnyslope is 10-1 when McIlroy posts five or more steals, but 7-8 otherwise. Shannon McIlroy was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Desert Vista now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Sunnyslope, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.

As of now, neither Desert Vista nor Sunnyslope have any future games scheduled.
