Basketball Recap: Lassiter Takes a Loss

Lassiter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the River Ridge Knights 70-30. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Knights are ranked first).

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malia Loadwick, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Hortman, who earned eight points.

River Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makayla Roberson led the charge by going 6 for 10 on her way to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Kyla Cantey, who went 6 of 13 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Lassiter's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12. As for River Ridge, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-1.

Lassiter has already played their next game, a 45-41 defeat against Sprayberry on the 28th. As for River Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-12 win against Riverwood on the 28th.
