Football Recap: Javier Castro and Jesus Yepiz Pace Copper Canyon Defense + How To Watch

Copper Canyon blew Sierra Linda out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Sierra Linda got their revenge. The Aztecs fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 31-28. The Aztecs gained 102 more yards on the day, but it was the Bulldogs that made the best use of them.

Even if they lost, Copper Canyon's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Javier Castro and Jesus Yepiz, who racked up all six sacks between them. Castro has been hot recently, having also posted eight or more total tackles the last four times he's played.

Sierra Linda had a senior duo take command as Rayon Rodgers rushed for 126 yards and one score on only 15 carries and Jordan Quijada picked up 81 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Quijada's longest reception was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Michael Fulton got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Copper Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Sierra Linda, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Copper Canyon will host La Joya Community at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Sierra Linda, they will be playing at home against Rio Rico at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
