Recap: Caprock Academy Eagles vs. Rangely Panthers
The Caprock Academy Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 45-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rangely. Caprock Academy has not had much luck with Rangely recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Caprock Academy had strong showings from Alex Spinu, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Jayce Templeton, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spinu has scored all season.
Caprock Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rangely pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Leading Rangely to victory were Clay Allred and Tristan Scott. Allred scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals, while Scott scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Scott scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Quintana, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Caprock Academy's loss was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Rangely, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Caprock Academy on the road again on Saturday and play against Soroco at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Soroco is ranked 317th, while Caprock Academy is ranked 299th). As for Rangely, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Little Snake River at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
