Basketball Recap: Sumner Stingrays vs. Wharton Wildcats
Sumner lost against Wharton back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Sumner Stingrays had to suffer through a 64-37 loss at the hands of the Wharton Wildcats. The matchup marked the Stingrays' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Wharton was led to victory by Tysen Jefferson and Nick Womack. Jefferson went 9 of 12 en route to 22 points in addition to seven steals and six assists, while Womack went 9 for 15 on his way to 23 points and six assists. Jefferson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Koenemann, who posted four points and five rebounds.
Sumner's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for Wharton, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.
Sumner will challenge Blake at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Blake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.2 points per game this season. Wharton is on a three-game streak of home wins, Plant a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
