Baseball Recap: Sunset Takes a Loss

Sunset had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 5-5 to make it four. They lost 8-2 to the Key West Conchs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Conchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 on Friday.

As for Key West, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.6 runs this season.

For Key West's part, Kade Maltz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Maltz a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Auggy Davila, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Xavier Perez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunset will face off against Brito at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Key West, they will take on Gulf Shores at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
