Baseball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Kenedy's Winning Streak

After flying high against Pettus last Tuesday, Kenedy came back down to earth. Kenedy fell 8-5 to the Port Aransas Marlins on Friday. The Lions' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Daniel Pena made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Pena wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Kenedy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for Kenedy: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.8.

Kenedy's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for Port Aransas, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Kenedy Lions duke it out with Yorktown Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Yorktown has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.44 runs per game on average), something Kenedy will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Port Aransas, they will take on Refugio at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Refugio will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
