Soccer Game Preview: Mater Dei Catholic vs. Clairemont

After a short break, it's finally time for some more action. The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders will venture away from home to take on the Clairemont Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mater Dei Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 22 goals over their last three matchups.

Mater Dei Catholic's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They blew past Southwest EC 5-0. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won five games by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Clairemont's game two weeks ago was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Coronado by a score of 2-1. While losing is never fun, the Chieftains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 659th, while the Islanders are ranked 325th).

Mater Dei Catholic pushed their record up to 7-1-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matches. As for Clairemont, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Everything went Mater Dei Catholic's way against Clairemont when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as Mater Dei Catholic made off with a 4-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mater Dei Catholic since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
