Softball Recap: Layton Drops Highest Score of Season Against Ogden

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Layton). They had just enough and edged out the Ogden Tigers 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted since May 7, 2024.

Lexie Himle made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Layton got a massive performance out of Megan Child, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Child has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Woodall, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Layton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Layton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-13. As for Ogden, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Layton will challenge Fremont at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Silverwolves will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ogden, they will square off against Union at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
