Baseball Game Preview: Girard Yellowjackets vs. Varsity Opponent

The Girard Yellowjackets will challenge Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Girard is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Fairview just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 6-2 to the Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Yellowjackets couldn't push the score so high this time.

Ryan St. Julien made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Levi Potter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Varsity Opponent didn't have quite enough to beat The Bennett School on Wednesday and fell 8-7. The defeat continues a trend for Varsity Opponent in their meetings with The Bennett School: they've now lost four in a row.

Girard's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Varsity Opponent, their defeat dropped their record down to 129-317-9.

Everything went Girard's way against Varsity Opponent in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, as Girard made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
