Basketball Recap: Firebaugh Piles Up the Points Against Middle College

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Firebaugh). They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 75-35 blowout they got against the Middle College Cougars. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Falcons had established a 30 point advantage.

Despite the defeat, Middle College saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Haidyn Lakey dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 62.9% of Middle College's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Zachary Bennett was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Firebaugh's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Middle College, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Firebaugh will host Compton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Firebaugh is facing Compton at the right time seeing as Compton is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Middle College, they will square off against Stella High Charter Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Middle College will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Stella High Charter Academy will have lost five straight heading into Wednesday's contest.
