Kellogg had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-12 to make it four. They fell just short of the St. Maries Lumberjacks by a score of 8-6. On the bright side, the six- run performance marked the Wildcats' highest-scoring contest to date.
Kaden Keller was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alex Cassidy was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Robert Liddicoat also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
As for St. Maries, the victory snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 3-12 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 8, 2024.
Like Kellogg, St. Maries also got a great game from a two-way player: Kris Brusseau. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Brusseau a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton Lingo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. St. Maries is 3-1 when Lingo posts two or more runs, but 0-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Amado Stewert, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
While Kellogg had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
