Volleyball Recap: Ashe County's Undefeated Season over After Five Games + How To Watch

If Ashe County was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Alleghany on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Huskies fell 3-1 to the Watauga Pioneers on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Ashe County started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-14, 25-11, 27-25.

Leading Watauga to victory were Caroline Childers and Lilli Combs. Childers had 25 digs and four aces, while Combs had 22 digs and one assist. Childers has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more digs the last 13 times she's played. Emma Pastusic also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ashe County fell to 4-1. As for Watauga, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashe County will venture away from home to challenge Elkin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watauga, they will head out to face off against Forbush at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
