The Valders Vikings will face off against the Kewaunee Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Valders managed to slip by Chilton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Vikings lost 15-3 to the Tigers on Thursday.
Lucas Spindler was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jack Wendling, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Kewaunee got themselves on the board against Crivitz on Thursday, but Crivitz never followed suit. They blew past the Wolverines 9-0.
Brady Pribek made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Diesel Bosdeck and Waylon Delain did most of the damage at the plate: Bosdeck went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Delain went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Bosdeck a new career-high. Alec Carlson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Kewaunee pushed their record up to 11-4-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Valders, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Valders has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kewaunee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Valders' way against Kewaunee in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, as Valders made off with an 11-1 victory. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
