Basketball Game Preview: Legacy Lightning vs. Fairview Knights

The Legacy Lightning will challenge the Fairview Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Legacy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Legacy earned a 65-54 victory over Mead. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lightning.

Legacy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaedon Ward led the charge by going 8 of 12 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Ward has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Allshouse, who went 6 of 9 en route to 12 points and seven assists.

Meanwhile, Fairview fought the good fight in their overtime game against Longmont on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 41-39. The contest marked the Knights' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Legacy will have to contain Spencer Brown as he made an impact in Fairview's last game. He posted 17 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Luke Mangine, who put up nine points and six boards.

The win got Legacy back to even at 4-4. As for Fairview, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Legacy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything went Legacy's way against Fairview in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as Legacy made off with a 71-47 victory. Will Legacy repeat their success, or does Fairview have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
