Basketball Game Preview: Hampton Roads Academy Navigators vs. Steward Spartans

Hampton Roads Academy is 0-8 against Steward since January of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Hampton Roads Academy Navigators will square off against the Steward Spartans at 7:00 p.m.

Hampton Roads Academy is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Norfolk Collegiate on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Hampton Roads Academy lost 53-33 to Norfolk Collegiate. While losing is never fun, the Navigators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Mighty Oaks are ranked 105th).

Meanwhile, Steward entered their tilt with Grace Christian School on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 66-57 victory over the Kings. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by exactly nine points.

Steward's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Hampton Roads Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Hampton Roads Academy was taken down by Steward 73-31 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Hampton Roads Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
