Basketball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends East Rockingham's Winning Streak

East Rockingham was the 61-57 winner over Luray when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The East Rockingham Eagles took a hard 66-52 fall against the Luray Bulldogs on Thursday. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Luray got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matthew Owens out in front who went 8 of 10 en route to 21 points. That's the most points Owens has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Blake Jenkins, who went 6 of 10 en route to 18 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, East Rockingham fell to 4-1. As for Luray, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Rockingham and Staunton will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Staunton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully East Rockingham likes a good challenge. As for Luray, they will venture away from home to square off against Pendleton County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
