Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Comes Up Short

St. Augustine played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Nixon Mustangs and fell 97-53. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-34.

Leading Nixon to victory were Dante Escobar and AJ Palacios. Escobar shot 80% from the field to rack up 22 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds, while Palacios went 10-for-22 on his way to 28 points and four steals. Escobar's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. William Palumbo was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six boards and three steals.

St. Augustine's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Nixon, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 6-7.

Coming up, St. Augustine will face off against United South at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. As for Nixon, they will welcome Laredo LBJ at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will be up against the Wolves' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.2 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
