Basketball Game Preview: Simmons Blue Devils vs. O'Bannon Greenwaves

Simmons has gone a perfect 10-0 against O'Bannon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Blue Devils will challenge the Greenwaves at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Blue Devils fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They came out on top against Greenwood by a score of 37-27 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Simmons' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Moesha Hoskins, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Hoskins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 23 games she's played dating back to last season. Sa'Riyah Alexander was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, O'Bannon beat West Bolivar 43-31 on Thursday.

O'Bannon's win came from a few key players Simmons will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zakiya Petterson, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Janyah Ware, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

O'Bannon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.

Simmons beat O'Bannon 49-42 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Ware, who shot 60% from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven blocks.
