Football Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. West Mesquite Wranglers

The Newman Smith Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the West Mesquite Wranglers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newman Smith comes in on six and West Mesquite on seven.

On Thursday, Newman Smith really took it to Adams for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-7 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Trojans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 449th, while the Cougars are ranked 964th).

Newman Smith's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gianfranco Fuentes, who rushed for 28 yards and three touchdowns. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Fuentes a new career-high.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Newman Smith proved: they limited Adams to a paltry 0.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Antwand Polk for the heroic effort on defense: he. Newman Smith didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.

Meanwhile, West Mesquite blew past Creekview, posting a 53-21 victory. Considering the Wranglers have won seven games by more than 27 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Newman Smith's record is now 6-2. As for West Mesquite, their record now sits at 7-1.

Newman Smith came up short against West Mesquite in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 20-13. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
