Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Trico's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

After losing to Sparta the last time they met, Trico decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Trico Pioneers had just enough and edged the Sparta Bulldogs out 42-39. Winning may never get old, but the Pioneers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Despite the defeat, Sparta saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sierra Starr went 5 for 12 en route to 17 points and seven boards. That's the most points Starr has posted since back in November of 2024. Maddie Schulein was another key player, putting up nine points.

Trico is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Sparta, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trico won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Shawnee at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shawnee will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Trico surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sparta, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Carlyle at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
