Basketball Game Preview: Washington Eagles vs. Yates Lions

Washington has gone 8-2 against Yates recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Washington Eagles will be home for the holidays to greet the Yates Lions at 7:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Yates is hoping to do what North Forest couldn't on Friday: put an end to Washington's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Washington simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat North Forest 100-35. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 1177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Washington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Robert Jones out in front who went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points and five steals. Jones' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Dixon, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points.

Washington was working as a unit and finished the game with 28 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Yates took on Northside on Saturday. Yates blew past Northside, posting a 91-48 victory. That 43 point margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Yates' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 89.3 points per game. As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Everything came up roses for Washington against Yates when the teams last played back in February, as the team secured a 105-61 win. Does Washington have another victory up their sleeve, or will Yates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
