The Jefferson Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Morgantown Mohigans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Jefferson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Martinsburg on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-3 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Jersey Rummel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other pitching news, Caroline ABE looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Becca Munslow was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Brooke Allen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Jefferson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, while Morgantown put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Buckhannon-Upshur. The Mohigans blew past the Buccaneers 12-0. The victory continues a trend for the Mohigans in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won three in a row.
Morgantown let CARPER MESSERLY and GRACE ROBINSON run wild. MESSERLY scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while ROBINSON scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three hits gave MESSERLY a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of MADI STONE, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Morgantown pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, their record is now 7-0.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Jefferson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Morgantown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Jefferson came up short against Morgantown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-3. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
