Softball Game Preview: Pell City Panthers vs. Shades Valley Mounties

Pell City is a perfect 3-0 against Shades Valley since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will welcome the Mounties at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Pell City is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Helena, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Pell City was ranked 18th). The Panthers fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 7-5 on Monday. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Panthers, who fell 8-6 when the teams last met back in February of 2024.

Kherington Keith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Nyla Treptau was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Shades Valley lost 14-3 to Hale County on Saturday. The contest marked the Mounties' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Shades Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Paxton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Pell City dropped their record down to 20-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Shades Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 11-3.

Pell City beat Shades Valley 5-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Mounties have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
