Basketball Recap: Jake Gwaltney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Annapolis Christian Academy over Sunnybrook Christian

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Annapolis Christian Academy can now relate to. They took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sunnybrook Christian Lions on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent defeat being a 49-48 loss two weeks ago.

Annapolis Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Gwaltney, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 15 boards. Gwaltney is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 22 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Cavazos, who posted 14 points.

Even though they lost, Annapolis Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Gabe Minica, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds for Sunnybrook Christian. That makes it three consecutive games in which Minica has scored at least a third of Sunnybrook Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Anaya, who put up 11 points and five boards.

Annapolis Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 18-13. As for Sunnybrook Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season.
