The American Heritage Patriots will take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. American Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
American Heritage gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Palm Beach Central. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Broncos recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Isabella Benton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Layne, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Arianna Reynolds, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday St. Thomas Aquinas sidestepped Stoneman Douglas for a 2-1 win.
Lavinia Miller looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, St. Thomas Aquinas' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Paige Boccuzzi, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that Boccuzzi brought in this season. Ava Romance was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
St. Thomas Aquinas' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for American Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. American Heritage hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Thomas Aquinas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
American Heritage took their win against St. Thomas Aquinas when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7. Does American Heritage have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Thomas Aquinas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
