Volleyball Recap: St. Stephens Comes Up Short

If St. Stephens was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of East Burke on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians fell 3-1 to the Ashe County Huskies on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

The final score came out to 25-23, 25-10, 23-25, 25-20.

When it comes to explaining why St. Stephens lost, don't look at Natalie Escamilla. Despite the final result, she had 16 digs and three aces.

Ashe County found their leader in sophomore Jose Cheek, who had 11 digs and three aces.

St. Stephens' defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Ashe County, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

St. Stephens has already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against Draughn on the 21st. As for Ashe County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against West Rowan on the 20th.
