Princeton is 2-8 against Vincennes Lincoln since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Alices at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Princeton barely beat South Knox the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Spartans 11-1 on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Jaron Clutter made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Clutter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Jarrett Kinder was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Vincennes Lincoln got the win against North Daviess on Friday by a conclusive 11-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Alices.
Vincennes Lincoln also got a great performance from Justice Johnson as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Johnson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Vincennes Lincoln let Donta Henderson and Daniel Henderson run wild. Donta went 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Daniel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Daniel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of William Burgess, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Princeton pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Vincennes Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Princeton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Vincennes Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
