Volleyball Recap: Avery Jakubovic's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Poland Seminary over Springfield

Poland Seminary lost against Springfield back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 3-2. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 25-21 in the first set.

Poland Seminary started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-11.

Poland Seminary's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Jakubovic, who had 17 digs and two assists. Jakubovic is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played. Makenna Saville was another key player, getting 21 assists and 11 digs.

Erika Grinstead was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had nine digs and five aces. That's the most aces she has posted since back in September.

Poland Seminary's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Springfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Poland Seminary has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Howland on the 9th. As for Springfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Struthers on the 7th.
