Softball Recap: Corvallis Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hellgate

Corvallis extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They fell 13-10 to the Hellgate Knights. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked the Blue Devils' highest-scoring game to date.

As for Hellgate, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

For Hellgate's part, Avery King made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). King has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Shannon Kane was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Donalynn Headswift was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Corvallis will be taking part in a tournament against East Helena at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hellgate, they will face off against Ronan at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
