Basketball Recap: Lewis County Has No Trouble Against Buckhannon-Upshur

Lewis County hadn't done well against Buckhannon-Upshur recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Everything went the Lewis County Minutemen's way against the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers as the Lewis County Minutemen made off with a 62-41 victory. The Minutemen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Payten Goodwin, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Pinkney, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Lewis County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buckhannon-Upshur only five assists.

Despite the loss, Buckhannon-Upshur still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Abel, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 15 boards. That was a full 58.5% of Buckhannon-Upshur's points, marking the third time in a row Abel has scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Allie Key, who earned six points and nine rebounds.

Lewis County now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Lewis County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-49 win against Bridgeport on the 19th. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, they have also already played their next game, a 67-54 loss against Philip Barbour on the 19th.
