Basketball Recap: West Johnston Takes a Loss

West Johnston was the 59-42 winner over South Johnston when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The West Johnston Wildcats took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Johnston Trojans on Thursday. The game marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why West Johnston lost, don't look at Chase Gilmore. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian McFall, who scored nine points.

Kaleb Williams was a one-man wrecking crew for South Johnston as he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 56 rebounds. Those 56 boards gave Williams a new career-high. Cole Norris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.

West Johnston has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for South Johnston, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.

West Johnston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-31 loss against East Wake on the 31st. South Johnston has also already played their next contest, a 63-44 defeat against C.B. Aycock on the 31st.
